January should have been a time for fresh starts, new opportunities & setting intentions… but instead home-schooling, working from home & long, dark, wet days added weight to our emotions, & even the most upbeat, glass half-full folk were holding their hands up, admitting they were taking a battering.
 

That’s why we’ve stepped things up at Soulfit this month…

We know the one thing that’s going to make the most significant difference to our mental & physical health right now is exercise.

Interestingly 80% of people who show up with a new determination
to get fit in January make it to the end of the month.
That only leaves 20% who're still going throughout February

But this isn’t your average year & it's very much in our hands to turn what’s in our control, into a positive.

Trust us, we know it’s not easy.

But the decision to be consistent, to prioritise exercise, to plan a 45-minute or 1-hour Total Body workout, Dance class or Yoga practice into each day will change everything - you’ll sleep better, perform better, react better.

Can you help us grow…
So far this year we’ve had such a heart-warming increase in visits to our classes – new Soulfitters have joined our long-termers.

If we’re honest though, running a Yoga, Dance & Fitness studio during this pandemic, aside from being unbelievably rewarding, has been pretty tough. And we stand with so many independent studios & teachers embracing the ‘Work out to Help Out’ drive. Of course, it’s wonderful there’s a wealth of free content out there, but many of them are run by enormous wellness empires & are having a huge impact on our industry.

Our goal is very much to look after you & to provide motivating, challenging & inspiring classes with some of the best teachers in the country. So honestly, this is a plea to you to continue to support us back. If you’re scrolling the internet looking for fitness inspiration – look at our website first & pass-by the free stuff. Our On Demand library is brimming with brilliant classes & there are plenty of free sample classes to access.

If you can’t stretch to our prices, please reach out to us, we’ve supported more people than you could imagine over this last year – giving them free or ‘pay what you can afford’ access, as well as free classes to NHS workers.

The biggest gift you could give back to us is to share what we do with your friends & family.

We’ve been loving our most recent Soulfit Collaboration with the gorgeous Sharon from Femme Brûlée!

Teaming up with local businesses, artists & all-round awesome people has been something we’ve done from the start, & this one’s right up there with the best of the best...

To coincide with the launch of our Total Body workouts, Sharon created a series of Playlists for each class.  These energetic sessions focus on building strength, stamina & willpower, so we knew music would play a vital role in making them fun, energetic & uplifting...

So far we've worked out to Disco, Rave, Soul, Indie & some good old Cheese - every one a winner!

Just over a year ago our much-loved Ali Hahlo asked us to host an event in celebration of National Iyengar Yoga Day, & we wanted to honour her by repeating this event in 2021.

This year’s event was hosted by the incredible Sallie Sullivan – one of the UK’s most Senior Iyengar yoga teachers, who studied under Mr Iyengar himself, & carries a wealth of knowledge plus our very own Lindsay Barchan who has taken over the reins for Ali. Those of you that have attended Lindsay’s classes will know what an outstanding teacher she is. So earlier in January we hosted one of our biggest events to date with a free talk led by Sallie & a 45-minute class led by Lindsay.

Shay Grant also hosted a beautiful Winter Warmer extended Yoga class – A 2-hour feast of heart-warming Vinyasa & Yin with a Meditation practice designed to draw in the inner heat - all beautifully designed to nourish our health & vitality.

We have our beautiful Heart-Opening extended Yoga class with the biggest love of your life, Cherry

As you’d expect from this bundle of joy, there will be lots of spice, as well as plenty of nourishment in this 2-hour virtual yoga practice.

First, she’ll bring the heat in by taking you through a series of creative sequences that will focus on your core & upper body, & then she’ll bring things back down with a restorative, tension-releasing series.

Lewes Food Bank/ Please help us share the Lewes Love
Many of you will have seen we’ve been helping the Lewes Food Bank collections by volunteering to collect thousands of food items for those who really need them.

This month, as lockdown has scuppered the usual collections, the team are taking a different approach by asking for donations throughout the week. Then on Sunday 14th, Valentine’s Day, the food items will be purchased from our 3 supermarkets & we'll be helping deliver them for distribution.
